Let the fundraising begin! I have a long ways to go, but I’m sure I will be able to raise $2,500 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Team in Training. I know that everyone has been affected by cancer in some way, whether it be a friend, family member, co-worker, or even yourself. By donating to LLS, you are helping win the battle against cancer. I cannot wait for that day to get here…when the cure for cancer is found and we are able to save all of our cancer patients! I ask that you donate to LLS, maybe in honor of someone you know who has been affected by cancer, or possibly just because you are as passionate about finding a cure as I am! I appreciate it very much! :)

…that’s the number of miles I’ll be running on March 21, 2010. I officially registered with Team in Training, which is part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, to run the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach, VA. I’ll train with a group of runners and raise money that goes directly to LLS. It’s such a humbling thing to know that in exchange for me doing what I love (running), I’m helping those that have been diagnosed with cancer. LLS and The American Cancer Society are two causes that I am very passionate about, as my aunt was diagnosed with cancer in 2008. She has done well, but she is still in treatment at this time. I feel like every little bit helps, and I encourage everyone to find a charity or a cause that they are passionate about and put forth an effort to helping out. It can be as simple as volunteering your time, or it can be as strenuous as using your physical effort to accomplish something. I have always wanted to run a marathon–a life goal, I guess it could be described as. But knowing that I will have the support of my teammates and a wonderful cause to run for makes the 26.2 miles seem minuscule compared to what cancer patients have to deal with on a daily basis. This is in honor of my aunt and every other cancer patient–here’s to providing support to all cancer patients and MOST IMPORTANTLY,  finding a cure to cancer!

Gameday…can’t believe I’m missing out. Thursday night games are the best!

Love is the end

28 Oct

Sooooo where do I begin?! It’s beginning to really hit me that I’m graduating in May and I’ll be a grown-up in the “real world”…ha. I am trying to decide what is the best career/education move for me…I still want to go to Law School, but I’m also considering Graduate School for Business or Public Policy, and maybe an Environmental Fellows program. I’m really interested in an Environmental career and I’m beginning to think that maybe having a little experience to set me apart would be a good thing for furthering my education and also getting a good job. It’s all happening at once! I’m going to apply to law school, several grad programs, and also for this potential fellow opportunity. We shall see I guess! :)

It seems like every day I find out another friend is engaged and getting married soon. It’s so exciting for them, but I still feel like we’re all so young! I must say, though, that the more I hear about these engagements and weddings, I’m more ready than ever to follow suit :) That’s the thing, no matter where you are in your life, whether you’re going back to school or going out in the workforce…being married to the love of your life is always a good thing…and I can hardly wait, even though we agreed on waiting a few years…we’ll see ;)

PLEASE help find Morgan Dana Harrington

27 Oct

As a student at Virginia Tech and a friend of some of Morgan’s friends, I am posting this to help in the search for Morgan. She was last seen in Charlottesville, VA on October 17th, 2009. Please look at the info on the poster, and keep passing the word on. Keep her family in your prayers that she will come home safely!

Please Help Find Morgan Dana Harrington!

Fall is in the air :)

25 Oct

The trip to Charlottesville was great today :) It was so pretty with all of the leaves changing colors and it was a chilly Fall day. It was so crowded at Monticello but we were able to go on a tour of the house and grounds. I remembered a lot of it from years ago, and it was still as gorgeous as ever! The orchard was beyond crowded…I’ve actually never seen so many people there before. I think that its gotten more popular over the years! We bought lots of fresh apples and cider, can’t wait to try them :) After riding around Charlottesville and stopping at a few stores, I’m finally back home and in desperate need of studying! Test tomorrow…yikes.

Gorgeous leaves at Monticello

24 Oct

Going to Charlottesville bright and early…leaving at 7am! Apple picking at Carter Mountain Orchard and then touring Monticello again. It’s been at least 10 years since I’ve been there, but it’s sooo gorgeous and I love history :) So I should probably go to bed and get some sleep since I already suffer from enough sleep deprivation! Should be a fun 3-hour drive…I’ll be studying the entire time though. blah! I have 3 tests this week and an LSAT to study for, sooo studying isn’t really an option…it’s a necessity! My goal is to get a lot of studying done…so that I can watch Desperate Housewives tomorrow night when I get home. You can see where my priorities are…haha!

23 Oct

So plans are going well for my Mama’s 50th! Got some planning done tonight, and putting the invitations in the mail tomorrow :) Going to do a little shopping with Mama tomorrow…I’m in need of retail therapy…it’s been too long!!! Speaking of shopping…just added a Longchamp bag to my Christmas wishlist. Actually I’m going to make it CLEAR that I want one for Christmas…haha. I have a thing for purses, and most people would probably freak out when they saw my closet full of them. Especially the Lacoste and Coach ones that I spent wayyyy too much $$$ on! Can’t help it, they’re my favorite…along with shoes! You can never have enough pairs of cute shoes :)

Sunday–my family is going to Charlottesville. We go up there to an apple orchard every fall and pick apples and buy cider…such a beautiful place on top of Thomas Jefferson’s mountain. Speaking of TJ, I wanted to go back to Monticello as well so that should be fun. I love history, I love politics, and I love gorgeous architecture. If you haven’t been there, its definitely worth a trip! :)

In the blink of an eye

22 Oct

Today has been a heartbreaking day. As one person quoted, “it’s like a death in the family.” However, its even more than that…the closing of International Paper in Franklin, VA is the death of a community, a region. I can endlessly count the number of people I know that work for IP and will be losing their jobs by Spring 2010. It is a terrible feeling, knowing there is nothing that can be done and knowing that the little town of Franklin, where I have so many memories and friends, is going to suffer drastically. It is truly a blessing to know that my parents have steady jobs during this economic downturn, but I still feel the pain of so many that are without jobs and financial security. All any of us can do now is pray, and hope that within all of this devastation, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I know everything happens for a reason, and God has a plan. A friend got it perfectly correct with this bible verse, and I thought it was worth sharing:

Deut. 4 – 30: “When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice. 31: “For the LORD your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor… forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them..

Stress! Story of my life…

21 Oct

Ah, so I realized that I am in DEFINITE need of retaking the LSAT if I want a chance to go to a top-tier law school. It’s sooo stressful that I’m apparently terrible at taking that darn test. I do well in college, make A’s on tests, and then I get a less-than-exciting LSAT score. Again. It diminishes all of the brilliance I feel from doing well in my classes! Sooooo, there are 45 days until the LSAT, and I’m not accepting any less than 45 hours of studying. I hope to put in even more than that, but with exams and papers galore, I can’t expect too much free time.

Its really beginning to hit me that graduation is so very soon…I’m starting to freak out! I feel so young…well I am young really, since I’m graduating a year early. Yikes! I feel like this has all came about so quickly, but in a way I am excited! If I can just ace this LSAT (um, i HAVE to…) and then the GMAT…and maybe the GRE (total overachiever?) then I could start enjoying my last months of college a little more! I have big dreams, and that means I have a lot of work to do to achieve them!!! What can I say…I like stress, in a love/hate sort of way….
