Seize the Day

13 Apr

I’ve never been perfectly content here at my university, and it has usually shown. I chose to let little things get me down and always found something to complain about…which is surprising, since I’m not really a negative person. But I’m graduating from this place in about 31 days, so I’ve chosen to be as optimistic as possible. Every day is a gift, an opportunity…there’s no need to let it go to waste. I’ve actually been able to find the beauty of this university, especially in the Springtime. I’ve even made a few new friends, just by being friendly and smiling throughout the day. Most importantly, I’ve just allowed myself to embrace the day and live in the moment. There are just little things that I never really did before that I’ve done lately, like:

  • going out to brunch with my family at a local favorite restaurant
  • taking my running outdoors and exploring new trails/routes
  • taking a Saturday afternoon drive through the mountains and visiting a winery
  • trying another little restaurant downtown for Sunday lunch
  • just generally being more spontaneous…after all, I’m on my own here at school, so better enjoy the ability to do “what I want, when I want” while I have the chance! ;)

So other than a few negatives that I haven’t fully “embraced”…I’ve found that I’m much happier and dare I say, content(?!) being here, on my own, for a few more weeks. Trust me, though, there’s still a serious countdown until SUMMER! ;)

It’s SO good to appreciate all of that! College absolutely flies by — I’ll be out of school two years next month — and it’s absolutely insane to think that much time has gone by.
