Today is the day…I’m finally legal ;) I can’t believe I’m 21…I feel like I’m getting old sooo quickly. Now that I’m 21, time can sllllllowwww down…haha!
The trip to Charlotte was great! Thursday afternoon, we went to Southpark Mall…which was fabulous. I wish I lived near there…well, that’s probably NOT a good thing ;) After spending $$$ in Sephora and buying some cute Steve Madden high-heeled sandals on sale @70% off(!), we called it a day. I went back to the hotel and worked out in their really nice gym, then got in the hot tub to relax my muscles. So nice. The next morning, I woke up and went downstairs to get in a short, fast run and then we got ready and left the hotel. After making a trip to World Market (my dad works for the corporate side, so he feels the need to visit every store we come across! haha), we went to Panera (my FAVE)! This is a record: Panera twice in one week! :) After that, we made our way to the law school for an Admitted Students tour. It was gorgeous and had great views of downtown Charlotte. Its practically new and so its really technologically modern. I am still not sure exactly where I’m going to end up choosing to go to law school, but Charlotte is definitely a viable option :)
The weather was pretty gross on the drive home…misty rain + bright lights + darkness = difficulty seeing the road! We finally made it home around 10pm and all of us promptly passed out for the night! A part of me wanted to go out for a midnight “legal” drink, just for the sake of being carded….haha. But sleep is much more important, especially since I’ve been lacking it over Spring Break! Tonight, my fam, the boy, and I are all going to the Melting Pot and I’ll be doing a little bar-hopping to find my long sought-after perfect mojito ;) And there’s a bottle of Champagne in the refrigerator to break open when we get home…looks like I might be a little tipsy before this night is over. I’m trying to NOT drink much, because I have to drive back to school tomorrow and don’t want to feel bad! Oh well, I’m not going to focus on…for now, I’m going to celebrate! ;)
So I wanted to get in a double digit run sometime this week over Spring Break, but I was slowly running out of time to squeeze one in! Since I’ll be gone Thursday & Friday to Charlotte, NC to visit a law school, that left me with today and Saturday…and Saturday is my 21st birthday! I had no intentions going into my run…the weather was sooo perfect, 70 degrees and no wind…and I just wanted to enjoy it. But as I started running, I felt really good and decided I would aim for a double digit run. Its a challenge to measure the exact distance since my Nike+ chip isn’t working (and its a brand new replacement!), so I guesstimated most of the time. I have measured out 7 miles out and back, so I just ran farther and hoped it would add enough mileage! Well, I checked mapmyrun.com when I got back and I actually did 11 miles! Unfortunately, today’s run wasn’t as lovely as my eleven-miler two weeks ago. But I got in the miles, so that’s all that matters. I probably won’t do another double-digit run before the half marathon on March 21st…I’ll keep my runs under 8 miles most likely.
I’ve been helping cook dinner since I’ve been home this week, and tonight I’m actually getting my parents to eat tofu. My mom doesn’t mind it, but I don’t think my dad is a huge fan of it…haha. I made healthy Spinach-Tofu Lasagna, so I doubt he will even know there’s tofu in it! ;) I still need to pack for the trip to Charlotte, because we’re leaving early tomorrow…gotta get in all the shopping time I can while I’m there! Haha, of course I would think of shopping…even though that’s obviously not the reason we’re making the trip there. I was accepted at the law school in Charlotte, and they do tours and info sessions on Fridays only, so this was the only time I am able to go. I know for a fact that I love Charlotte…so hopefully I’ll like the law school as well!
Well I guess I better start packing…you can never take too many clothes when you travel! ;)
Ahhh today was SO nice…the weather was in the upper 50s and it was sooo sunny. I have been waiting for this weather for a long time! This morning, I slept in ’til 9am…which is pretty late for me. And then, I did nothing. It was so nice…I sat around in the kitchen drinking coffee and chatting with my parents. I love doing that…we always have things to talk about and catch up on since I’m away at school most of the time! After being “lazy” all morning, I decided to go to the gym to get some serious strength training in. I ended up doing a full body workout of 2-3 sets of 10-12 reps, and then did 4 miles of running intervals on the treadmill…lovely workout! I’m feeling a little muscle soreness creeping up tonight ;)
Tonight, my parents took me shopping for my birthday. See, I NEVER know what I want, and I’m really picky…so they just take me shopping instead of picking things out for me! I got my long-lusted-after Longchamp bag that I mentioned not once, but twice on the blog! haha :) I ended up buying the Le Pliage Medium tote in Graphite from Nordstrom…I love it. Finally broke my habit of buying a Coach purse EVERY birthday! And then I made the obligatory stop at Victoria’s Secret…yes, its true–I never leave the mall without buying something at VS! ha ha :) Then I used my birthday coupon for a free drink at Starbucks…ah, so nice to get my Starbucks fix for free. As much $$$ as I spend there, I should get coupons daily…haha.
Tomorrow, my fam & the boy and I are driving down to the beach for the day. Its supposed to be warm(ish) weather, so we’re taking the 4WD and off-roading it. I’m wearing workout clothes and def taking advantage of the weather and the beach…going for a run on the sand! Love it. I really love being home…although I feel like I have something planned for every day of the week, literally! Monday or Wednesday, my boyfriend is taking me shopping (another present-buying day…haha, see NO one can shop for me!), Tuesday is appt day: hair, chiropractor, whatever else I can find (massage…jk!), and then Thursday & Friday…we’re going back to Charlotte, NC! I’m looking into Law School there…well, I’ve been accepted, so I’m going to just take a tour of the school and see what its like :) I am definitely making a trip to Southpark Mall…you can never do enough shopping ;) And then Saturday, which is my last full day at home…sadly…we have dinner reservations for my 21st birthday! Busy, busy week to look forward to….I think it’ll be great! ;)
So I finally perfected my personal statement for law school admission…I have done almost everything on my applications, so now its about time to submit them! It’s an exciting and nervous feeling…I feel accomplished at getting this far, but nervous that everything I have done is not good enough. We shall see!
I still have about a week & a half before my last semester of college begins…I can’t believe I’m about to become a college grad! I think I’m ready though. I have been waiting for many years to finally be able to attend law school, so lets just hope everything will work out! A family friend that was in Spin class at the gym yesterday was telling me that his daughter is in law school in Charlotte, NC right now, and it sounds like she’s having the time of her life. I have heard only good things about this law school and I intend to apply there! Many of the schools that I am looking at are in North Carolina…I am convinced they just have more schools than Virginia does….haha. Maybe not, but the ones in good ol’ VA just don’t seem to suit me as well. I haven’t mentioned the other schools that I’m applying to as much, because I think family & friends don’t want to hear about them…they’re in California (which would be my dream!), New York, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and Georgia. So pretty much all East Coast except for CA. I am open to attending any schools in these states really…I think it would be fun to go out on my own and have a new experience. I have not lived outside the state of VA in all of my life, but it is highly likely that I will not be living here once I am working. I plan practice law in a big(ger) city…so may as well practice living away from “home” (VA) now ;)
It’s soooo nice to say that the semester is completely over with! And I just found out I have a 3.8 GPA, which means Dean’s List AND the fact that I’ve never had a GPA that high in college is just exciting! I have truly been discouraged by grades in college up until this semester, as I came from high school were I had a 4.3 GPA to barely making a 3.0 each semester. But now I beat my goal :) Just means I have to keep that up for my next & LAST semester in college!!!
The holiday parties started this past weekend, as I went to my boyfriend’s sister’s Annual Christmas party on Friday. It was a great time and got to spend time with some of my favorites :) Saturday, I went shopping with my Mama…we’re sooo behind on shopping, and still have a little to do! The day was perfect…not to mention, we even got a dusting of snow…even though the rest of VA got like two FEET of snow. But hey, you take what you can get! Sunday, my family went to Greenville, NC to my aunt’s house for our annual Christmas party with my Mama’s fam. It was really nice and it’s always fun spending time with family & friends.
I can hardly believe that Christmas is in 4 more days! This month has gone by so quickly, and I feel like there is still so much to do! Today has already been productive, though…I have started painting the wine glasses for my fav Hokies & Wahoo fans and they’re turning out great! I also baked three batches of sugar cookies…now we get to frost them…my favorite part :) Still have a lot of baking to do, but I’m about to get in a good, long run since its a nice 45 degrees…perfect running weather. Need to get back on the marathon training plan…I’ve been doing a lot of cross-training (Spinning, elliptical, etc.) because my right Quad has been hurting. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it a long ways today…need to get ready and go since today is the shortest day of the year!
The trip to Charlotte, NC was amazing…a long drive though!!! 5 hours plus dealing with traffic…but we made it fun :) We got to the city around 2pm on Saturday, and after checking into the Hilton, went walking around. Strangely enough, the city was pretty much deserted! I’m not used to that…every big city I’ve been to ALWAYS has people walking around and lots of stores and restaurants open. So after wandering around and finding pretty much every store closed, we decided to watch the VT/UVA game in a nearby sports bar. That turned out to be really fun…every wall was covered with TVs so we kept up with multiple games at once and I got to see my Hokies win :) After the game, we went back to the hotel and got ready for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. The arena was only a few blocks from our hotel, so the walk wasn’t bad and it wasn’t too cold outside either. The concert was really nice, but suprisingly, not as good as I expected. Last year it was actually better…don’t quote me on this, but it seemed as though they used the EXACT same playlist for the first half of the show as they did last year. A little disappointing, but overall still a good show!
Sunday, after checking out of the hotel (by the way, this is the first hotel where I’ve seen a NOON checkout time!), we stopped at Starbucks, which always makes me happy to know that I found a guy who loves Starbucks as much as I do :) On the way home, we stopped in Concord Mills, NC…which if you don’t know, is a WONDERFUL shopping area. I highly recommend it if you’re ever in the area! We spent wayyy too much time and money there, but had lots of fun. I think Sunday was actually a better day than Saturday overall :) We got home super late for a Sunday night, and I did not want to go to class the next day. So I slept late, and went to 4 out of 5 classes. Can’t believe there are only 5 more days of classes to go…where did the semester go?! On that note, I should get back to my three 10-12 page papers due within a week…yikes!
Pretty lights in Charlotte
Hotel room at the Hilton
Super huge Bass Pro Shops and Outdoor World :)
I feel like I have soooooo much to do before this month is over…I sense a trend in my blog posts…they’re all about how many things I have to do! ha ha maybe I’m procrastinating a little. Good news is, the house is mainly clean for the party this weekend, so the only thing to do is cook, decorate, and convince my mom to leave the house with me on Saturday so my dad, aunt, and boyfriend can get to work decorating the house!
I’m looking forward to the Charlotte, NC trip with Michael…only 17 more days! We’re going to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra…if you have never been to their Holiday concert, you are definitely missing out!!! It is amazing and it gets you in a Christmas mood :) Unfortunately, I have a term paper, a group project, and two exams between today and when we leave. Soooo I’m going to stay busy it looks like!
Chloe loves to pose for pictures :)
