Well, after lots of thought, I decided to try my luck using Blogger. I really wanted to move this entire blog over to Blogger, but alas, WordPress doesn’t want you to do that, so they make it too difficult! haha :) I will still be using this blog to give updates on life from time to time, but ultimately, I plan to focus on my new blog. My direction has changed quite a bit since I started blogging, and I’m much more interested in writing about fashion, fitness, and hopefully travel in the near future! :) I hope to see all of your faces at my new blog! Thanks so much :)
Well, as I mentioned several times, I’ve been hoping to go abroad for the Summer. I’ve been spending way too much time (time that should probably be spent reading for classes…ha) reading travel websites and figuring out where I should visit, where to stay, what to see…etc. While looking at all of these potential ideas, I came up with another idea. Why not have an Internship abroad?! How exciting would that be???
So I started doing
more research…and found a whole list of organizations that work to help you actually get an internship in the country of your choice. My choice? London. Its such a gorgeous place. Who wouldn’t want to wake up every morning and walk past beautiful parks and Buckingham Palace? And the culture…oh, don’t get me started on that. Its such a culturally rich place, and the depth of the history is just extraordinary. Plus, London is pretty centrally located for me to be able to travel when I have time. Chunnel to France? NBD. Cheap flight to Italy? Sure. Oh yeah–and my family emigrated from the UK. Many many many years ago. But that’s beside the point ;)
So, how do I feel about working abroad? Really excited, actually. It can almost seem like a burden to go overseas and then work, but honestly, it would be so neat to experience a job in a foreign country. Plus, I may be able to work in Parliament or for a Trial Attorney, which would be so interesting in itself. So, here I am, faced with a final decision…should I take the plunge and intern abroad this summer?!
There’s always something extravagant that you want for Christmas, right? Something you know you’ll probably never get…unless you win the lottery, marry a rich person, or have a trust fund. In which case, you’re just lucky. You also might be able to have this kind of $$$ if you have a good job…maybe. Haha. But anyways, what would you put on your Christmas list if money weren’t an issue? I can think of a few things I’d put on mine…
1. Range Rover – Dream SUV. I’ll settle for a BMW though.
2. Two weeks…or longer…in Tahiti/Bora Bora. At the Four Seasons Resort.
3. A closet full of Christian Louboutins…enough said ;)
4. Marc Jacobs bags…and lots of them. I’ll take Chanel too…or Louis Vuitton. I’m not picky ;)
5. A ski trip…Telluride, Aspen, Park City…again, I’m not picky. haha.
What’s on your “dream” Christmas list?
So I had my day allllll planned out yesterday…I woke up earlier than usual, packed my car, went to the gym, then went to classes. I was on my way home by 2pm…and then I went up the first big hill on the way out of the ‘Burg. And my car like…stuttered? coughed? hesitated? Ha I don’t even know the words to describe it. I kept driving, thinking it was a one-time occurrence. Oh but I was clearly wrong, and I had just gotten on I-81, which is the scariest highway of all time. Traffic rarely goes under 80mph and the majority of the road is overtaken by 18-wheelers. Always a stressful ride…even though I’m only on 81 for about 40 minutes. Thank goodness! Well, yesterday, my car kept doing the hesitating thing, so I was clearly freaking out. I pulled over at a rest area and called my dad because he’s the best mechanic I know…although its really hard to explain car problems over the phone. He was convinced it was bad fuel and told me to keep driving. At this point, I’m in tears. I was TERRIFIED to keep driving…but I did. I even went to an auto parts store at my dad’s suggestion and bought something to put into the gas tank to fix the water-in-the-gasoline problem. Well, I thought it had worked for about 30 miles…then it started messing up again. I was a MESS at this point and called my mom in tears. My parents ended up driving out and meeting me halfway so my dad could drive my car home. Let’s just say my parents are the greatest.
After THAT experience, I was crazy enough to get back in my car today and drive to the gym. Because my dad said it was driveable. And because I was not skipping 9:15 Spin class and lifting afterwards. I’m pretty stubborn. Haha. I had my fingers crossed the entire drive to and from the gym! Luckily, I made it back home safely. I spent the rest of today laying outside in the 85-degree weather! Does that really happen in April?! Wow, it has been a gorgeous day :) I also got a littleeeee bit sunburned…or a lot. Oops. I honestly think its because I haven’t been out in a bikini since last summer so my skin was bound to burn. Since I don’t go tanning anymore, I don’t keep that year-round fakebake glow. And I’m totally okay with that. Except that getting sunburned today probably wasn’t much better than laying in a tanning bed. Oh well, hopefully that won’t happen again!
Tomorrow morning is the 5k with the boy and one of our friends…I’m a little pumped. I want to get a PR…well beat my time from last year…for the 5k this time around. haha. I’ve sure been running enough sprints to pick up my speed! I’m a little nervous about the heat actually…I much prefer to run in cool weather, but its going to feel like summer here, even in the morning! Oh well better get used to it…warm weather is definitely among us ;)
Lately I’ve found myself wanting a lot of things…material things. I see a purse I want and I just feel like I HAVE to have it. I see a cute ski jacket that I want…and I “need” a new one. I want to go on a cruise this year…the one in 2007 was far too long ago. I want to go somewhere warm and tropical for Spring Break…because I haven’t been on a “real” Spring Break trip since I’ve been in college…and I’m graduating in May. I want some cute shoes I saw online the other day…because you can never have enough shoes! I want a new(er) car…because I will be driving long distances between home & law school mostly likely for the next 3 years. Plus the 5 hours that I currently drive home from college right now. I want some new clothes for Spring and Summer…because, like shoes, you can never have enough clothes. And I think part of my “wanting” new things is because my birthday is in 10 days, its Spring Break and I’m jealous of friends who are going on awesome trips, and because I graduate in May and want an awesome graduation present (like the cruise I got for high school graduation!). But I feel like none most of this is going to happen, because, in 5 months I’ll start accumulating the $100,000 debt that we like to call law school. I know its going to pay off in the end, and there will come a day when I’ll be able to splurge from time to time as a reward for my hard work. I need to look at the big picture…being a lawyer is a prestigious thing, or at least it was when I was younger! So I’m going to be positive and think about how successful I’ll be one day…hopefully in the near future! ;) Does anyone else find themselves lusting over a lot of material things from time to time???
The trip to Charlotte, NC was amazing…a long drive though!!! 5 hours plus dealing with traffic…but we made it fun :) We got to the city around 2pm on Saturday, and after checking into the Hilton, went walking around. Strangely enough, the city was pretty much deserted! I’m not used to that…every big city I’ve been to ALWAYS has people walking around and lots of stores and restaurants open. So after wandering around and finding pretty much every store closed, we decided to watch the VT/UVA game in a nearby sports bar. That turned out to be really fun…every wall was covered with TVs so we kept up with multiple games at once and I got to see my Hokies win :) After the game, we went back to the hotel and got ready for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. The arena was only a few blocks from our hotel, so the walk wasn’t bad and it wasn’t too cold outside either. The concert was really nice, but suprisingly, not as good as I expected. Last year it was actually better…don’t quote me on this, but it seemed as though they used the EXACT same playlist for the first half of the show as they did last year. A little disappointing, but overall still a good show!
Sunday, after checking out of the hotel (by the way, this is the first hotel where I’ve seen a NOON checkout time!), we stopped at Starbucks, which always makes me happy to know that I found a guy who loves Starbucks as much as I do :) On the way home, we stopped in Concord Mills, NC…which if you don’t know, is a WONDERFUL shopping area. I highly recommend it if you’re ever in the area! We spent wayyy too much time and money there, but had lots of fun. I think Sunday was actually a better day than Saturday overall :) We got home super late for a Sunday night, and I did not want to go to class the next day. So I slept late, and went to 4 out of 5 classes. Can’t believe there are only 5 more days of classes to go…where did the semester go?! On that note, I should get back to my three 10-12 page papers due within a week…yikes!
