Some Recent Deals

10 Jan

Well, I started off the year saying I wasn’t going to shop much. I’d say I’ve done so-s0 at sticking with that goal…haha. First of all, the Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale started last Tuesday, and I definitely did some damage there! But the Semi-Annual Sale is pretty much the only time I buy things like yoga pants, PINK sweats, new bras, etc. because the deals are SO good…why would I go buy the same things for full price when I can wait until January or July?!

Some deals I found:

L to R: Boyfriend Pant, $25 online (I paid less than $20 in-store though!); VS PINK Multi-Way Bra, $26.99 online; T-Shirt Demi Bra, $15.99 online

I also finally got a watch similar to one I’ve been eyeing for a while. I really wanted the Michael Kors version, but there are so many look-a-likes at much better prices, so I decided to go cheap on this one. I rarely wear a watch to begin with, so I’m trying to get used to having one on. Not to mention, I had $20 in Amazon Rewards….and the watch was $19.99! So I paid $4.95 total (for shipping) and basically got a free watch!

The one on the left is the one I bought for $19.99 on Amazon.com, and the Michael Kors Runway watch is on the right (On sale for $169 on Amazon.com!)…sure, its not exactly like the “authentic” MK watch, but its pretty similar at a much lower price!

Also, if you’ve never heard of Groupon…you should definitely check it out! I recently signed up to get the Groupon Deal of the Day for my area and I’ve seen some really great deals so far. They have 50% offers to restaurants pretty often, so if you like to go out to dinner…there ya go. I personally had been on the lookout for a Hot Yoga deal, since its typically so expensive! After checking Groupon and a few other sites with daily deals pretty regularly, I FINALLY found one! I have never been to this studio, but its one of the premier locations in the area, so I’ll give it a shot :)

I paid $40 for 10 classes…the retail price was $120, so I saved $80! Well worth it for yoga classes…they’re so pricey!

I tend to check out designer clothing discount sites pretty often, as mentioned in this post…even though I’m trying not to spend much money, I had been on the lookout for a pair of black skinny jeans for a while now. I kept seeing different types on Ruelala, Hautelook, and Beyond the Rack, but at $85+, I decided to wait around for a better deal. I logged onto Bluefly the other day, and lo and behold, I found a pair of James Jeans on sale for $54.39! I couldn’t pass that up, so I finally ordered some black skinnies.

I don’t have anything else I’m on the lookout for at the moment (which is a good thing! haha), so I’m going to try and stop spending $$$! I really need to start saving up if I’m going to go to Europe this summer! ;)

What deals have you found lately?

A Nice Bronze Glow…

2 Mar

Who doesn’t want a nice summery glow, especially when the weather is so gloomy. This time of year is when the college girls invade the tanning salons in town and on a good day, you wait an hour for a tanning bed that you’ll use for ~15 minutes. I used to be one of those girls…up until last May, actually. I started tanning in the Spring of my senior year in high school…I was getting ready to go on a cruise, and I wanted to have a “base tan”…didn’t want to look pasty on my first days in the Caribbean! Isn’t that funny? Most of us attempt to get tan before we go on vacation to a place where we’ll get really tan. Its really ironic, but a lot of us do it. In fact, I continued to do that every Spring for 3 years. I just loved the atmosphere of a tanning salon, the tropical smell, and the warm tanning beds felt sooooo good on a snowy day. Not to mention that “healthy” glow you noticed almost immediately, and how smooth your skin feels after tanning. I was hooked. Sure, there was always that underlying issue of the danger of tanning beds…but it never really got to me. Then, all the sudden, it became a widespread issue…and scientific evidence proved that tanning beds were dangerous. My mom even kept nagging me to stop tanning, but I told myself that if I only went two times a week, it wasn’t that bad. I had a serious addiction to it, and hardly any amount of a cancer threat could stop me from tanning. But something started to ‘click’, and every time I would lay in that tanning bed, I would start to feel anxious. I started thinking “what if…I got cancer from tanning?” “would I know it immediately?” “would it be really bad, would it spread?” Yes those thoughts started to overwhelm my mind, and I finally got to a place where I decided my life was way more important that a “healthy” glow…which is ironic in itself, because any “glow” you get from a tanning bed is not healthy! Don’t get me wrong, I still soak up the (real) sun…but I do wear at least SOME spf. As a lifeguard, I don’t have much choice but to love the sun, but I have become much more careful and responsible about my suntan habits.

So what’s a girl to do to achieve that bronze glow at any time during the year? Well, faux tanners work well, as long as you use the right ones! Some turn you orange, and others streak really bad. I’ve wasted plenty of money over the years with these…and even had spray-on tans done in the past for weddings/parties. Those usually looked natural, except they didn’t always wear off evenly. But I’ve finally found some instant tanners that I like and don’t turn my body orange. The first is one that I actually caught on sale at Victoria’s Secret during the Semi-Annual Sale in January.  Its from the Beach Sexy Collection, Sunkissed Bronze Instant Self Tan Lotion with Tint. The bottle I have looks slightly different than this one does, but I’m pretty sure its just a new design.

I only use the self-tanner about once a week or so…I like a subtle glow, but I don’t want to look unnaturally tan. I like to put on lotion after a shower so my skin isn’t dry, so I use Jergens Natural Glow Firming Daily Moisturizer. I know some people think it makes their skin have an orangish tint, but I don’t really notice it on my skin. In fact, its really subtle, especially if you don’t use it every day. But I really like the firming part as well…it really smooths your skin too.

Finally, Jergens has also made a Healthy Complexion Facial Moisturizer, which I really love. I have to use facial moisturizer before putting on makeup because my skin gets sooo dry in the winter! I love this because it adds a little glow to your face without causing your face to suddenly become a different shade. ha ha. That is always my fear about putting instant tanner on my face…so this is a good alternative. Its very subtle and isn’t going to turn your face orange or anything!

Well Spring Break is right around the corner, ya’ll…better start bronzing…in a healthy way ;)

A Few Of My Favorite Things ;)

9 Feb

To prevent pure boredom for readers of my blog tonight, I decided I would do a theme post! I really had quite an uneventful day, so there isn’t much to share…haha. Enjoy :)

1. Starbucks – I’m convinced Starbucks just tastes better…not to mention it instantly makes my day better! My favorites are: Skinny Mochas, Christmas Blend coffee, Light Caramel Frappuccinos (with sugar-free caramel!), and Tazo Iced Green Tea. I’m just addicted to anything from Starbucks, in general. So much that I got my boyfriend hooked on it too…which is great, because now he always pays! ;)

2. Coach Bags – I think I also have a slight addiction to these as well…oops. I tend to make up “reasons” to get a new Coach bag. I call them “traditions” now…see, I get one for my birthday, which becomes my Spring handbag…then Summer rolls around and there happens to be a sweet Coach outlet at the beach we vacation at…so that becomes my “Late Summer/Fall” handbag. Its quite a tradition, I must say.

3. My iPod – I’m addicted (sensing a trend here?! Maybe I need materialistic rehab…). I listen to it during my runs, on the elliptical, occasionally when doing weights, in the car, and even at night while I’m laying in bed. I got into this weird habit of listening to music to fall asleep. Not sure how that happened!

4. Keeping Up With The Kardashians – Because who can resist a short and sweet way to get your trashy TV fix?! It seems like people either really LOVE the show or really HATE it. I’m one of the crazies who loves it…but hey, its always entertaining…and usually makes me feel that much better about my intelligence level.

5. Victoria’s Secret – Victoria can do no wrong in my book…its usually the first store I hit up at any shopping center, and I always walk out with a huge shopping bag full of new things. I practically live in VS PINK fold-over yoga pants. They’re comfy and cute and versatile. I refuse to wear anything but VS undies…and I’m not ashamed to admit I have a drawer full plus some still with tags! Now that they have my school in the Collegiate Collection–well, they just found a new way to take my money! ;)

What are your favorite things? Is everyone as materialistic as I am?! ha ha…seems like a continuing theme from yesterday‘s post!

End of semester, holidays, and free stuff! :)

3 Dec

Finally December, and well it feels like the work is never-ending! But there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel…on December 18th! I just finished a 10-page Environmental Politics term paper, and now I’m about to start a 15-page paper on The Right-to-Life campaign…I LOVE political science all the time, EXCEPT at the end of the semester! That’s when all the term papers and other assignments are crammed into the last two weeks of classes. I just keep telling myself it’s almost over! One more semester to go, then I’m a graduate…still seems weird to me!

Right now I’m sooo high on Christmas that its difficult to focus on anything other than the holidays…and shopping…but I’m trying! After this weekend, I should have more time to spend on fun things, like my mom and I’s annual Christmas cookie baking and watching Christmas movies and other fun things :)

By the way, speaking of shopping…did anyone see the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show?! I live for that every year…it always makes me want to go shopping soooo much! I LOVE VS…it seems like they always have great deals, and the more you shop there, the more coupons you get in the mail! Definitely worthwhile :) There’s actually a deal going on now, if you’re a member of PINK Nation, which is totally free and you get special deals pretty often from it. If you login, you can print out a coupon for a free VS PINK panty between Dec 2-Dec 7th…a model was wearing a pair of them in the show to advertise the special. Here is the link: Click here to join PINK Nation…get free VS holiday panties!

Just thought I’d share that…it’s like a Christmas gift to yourself, but completely FREE :)

Surprise, surprise :)

15 Nov

The party was perfect. I couldn’t have hoped for anything better! :) My mom and I left home around 11:30am to go to Williamsburg. We went to the outlets and shopped at Underarmour, Adidas, Nike, AE, Bath and Body Works, Victoria’s Secret, Ann Taylor, Coach, and BCBG…my fave! It was sooooo crowded, almost like Black Friday. Rediculous! But there were great sales, and I got lots of cute clothes :) We left Williamsburg around 5:45pm and started going home, and I drove sllllowly in order to not get home before 7! She didn’t suspect a thing, and I even think she bought my response when she asked “what all the cars were doing in my neighbor’s yard?” I just said they were having a party, and proceeded to talk about our shopping trip. We walked into the house and everyone was surrounding the doorway and yelled “surprise!” at exactly the right time. It was so so so perfect! Thank you to everyone who helped make this party a success-my dad, my amazing boyfriend, my aunt, and every single person who was at the party! Ya’ll are great :)

I’m going to post pictures when they are uploaded (hopefully!) but here is one Michael sent when they were decorating…this was before the mean “Over the Hill” decorations!!!
