Its been a while…

27 May

I’m such a slacker about posting now that its summertime! I’ve been living the past two weeks up, because I start lifeguarding this weekend for the rest of the summer. Even so, I’ll still have free time…haha…its really not a bad job! I was actually just offered a better paying lifeguarding job at another pool…so as bad as it is, I think I’m going to have to bail on my current employer. The $$$ is just a lot better and I need to save all that I can for law school. Plus, I am getting ready to start training and taking workshops at my gym to become a fitness instructor. I’m really excited about that…I’ve been wanting to be a group exercise instructor for several years now :) So once I start teaching a few classes, that will give me even more summer income. Hey, its not much, but its more than what I have now! haha. I’m probably going to freak out when I have a “real” job in an office…I love being outdoors or at the gym, so these jobs are totally chill to me. Oh well, I’m going to live it up while I still can!

Let’s see—I haven’t posted anything since before the Brad Paisley concert last Friday. Well, the concert was awesome, as usual. He always puts on a great show, so its always a good time. I may have drank a little too much…especially since alcohol is crazy expensive at the amphitheater! But what can I say, I fit in perfectly with all the other concert-goers…I’d say about 3/4 of the crowd drinks at every concert I’ve ever gone to there. So, um, that’s where the amphitheater makes their $$$…not ticket sales and fees!

Saturday, I went with my mom to a local farmer’s market, where we bought some great fresh veggies. I made my grilled asparagus for dinner, which neither of my parents have tried, and they loved it. Found a new side to have with dinner a LOT this summer….love fresh asparagus! Sunday, my parents and I drove out to the “strawberry capital” of Tidewater VA to pick some great berries. We still have soooo many…might have to make a dessert of them soon!

I’ve been running a ton lately…plus its very convenient having a treadmill upstairs at home if you don’t have time to make it to the gym! Oh yeah, and watching the new big screen TV makes the miles go by super quickly ;)

Memorial weekend is almost here…and for most people, that means the BEACH! However, I haven’t had the opportunity to experience that in forever, since I’ve been lifeguarding since I was 16. Memorial weekend is always the first weekend of the pool season, at least around here. So I will be sitting by the pool getting paid and getting a decent tan…wishing I was laying on the beach with my best friends and boyfriend. Sigh…it’s a tough life…haha ;)

Where did the weekend go?

18 Apr

Yes, I had a long(er) weekend…no classes on Friday. Yet it still seems like its gone by awfully fast! Guess that happens when you have things to get done in the two weeks before classes end ;) After the 3.2 mile run on Friday, I contemplated going to Body Pump later in the day…but quickly decided against it when I realized I was exhausted. I ran some errands, finally bought The Hangover…yes I’m obsessed with that movie…and Marley & Me, which makes me cry every time! I actually went out three separate times on Friday…good thing everything is nearby my townhouse! Avoiding schoolwork as much as I could, I watched The Hangover on Friday night…alone…and I laughed out loud as much as I would if I was watching it with other people. haha. Life’s too short to not laugh :)

Saturday, I wasted more time avoiding schoolwork…see a trend here? Then I went for a 5-mile run, napped for two hours (that NEVER happens…I was obviously tired), cooked dinner and cleaned the kitchen. I spent the evening actually doing some work (surprising I know!) with the windows open and a cool breeze coming in the room. Lovely. I lasted about an hour before reading blogs and checking Facebook. Oops.

Today I slept in until 10…which is totally surprising for me…I usually have trouble sleeping past 8:30. I got up and made myself do some more work…then I had enough and went for a 7-mile run. I just cannot sit still and do schoolwork all day. Oh well…with that 7-miler, my weekly mileage is up to 35 miles…funny, I’m not even really training for anything right now…I’ve just been in a running mood lately instead of doing other workouts. I’m not complaining ;)

I wasted more time by going grocery shopping…easily my favorite part of the weekend. I’m one of those people…love buying fresh produce and meal ideas start popping into my mind before I leave the store. Ahh…I should just not go to law school and be a chef instead….ha ha I kid. But at least there’s a back-up plan just in case…ha.

Now I have clearly avoided schoolwork enough this weekend and I’m down to the wire to get things done…that’s how it usually is. I’m a professional procrastinator…but it works out for me. Plus, there’s really only two weeks left of my college career, so I think I can work hard for a little while longer…

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend…free from procrastination…unlike mine ;)

Busy weekend!

11 Apr

This has probably been one of the busiest weekends I’ve had in the ‘Burg this semester! Friday morning, I went to classes and to the gym to get in a workout before Relay for Life that evening. My family got into town in the late afternoon, and we set up our campsite at Relay…it turned out so cute! My aunt and cousin came up with a cute theme and everyone contributed cute decorations, plus we sold ovarian/breast cancer bracelets and baked goods….which went over well. We did so good, and I’m so proud of my family pulling together to make this a fun night for my Aunt! Minus the cold weather, it was a lot of fun…and no we didn’t make it the entire night…way too cold!

Saturday, we went out for Brunch and just hung out for a while…the weather was gorgeous! Finally, around 2, my aunt, my cousin and his wife left to go home, but my parents stayed through today…so us three drove out on the Blue Ridge Parkway and ended up at a winery to do some wine tasting ;) That was so fun…first time I was able to actually TASTE the wine at a vineyard…last time we visited one up here, I was underage…so I had to sit back while everyone else enjoyed it. Not this time! We ended up buying a few bottles, and then drove on the Parkway some more…the mountains are so pretty this time of year. We were all sooo tired from the night before at Relay, so we had dinner at Panera and called it a night. Oh, I also FINALLY got my cap and gown…graduation is so soon!

I’ve really gotten in a routine of working out every day…it just works for me. I never feel like I’m overtraining or anything, so unless I get to that point, I like my daily workouts. Unfortunately, yesterday was just so busy that I didn’t have time to get a workout in…and I tried to not worry about it. But I still like to break a sweat every day…oh well. This morning, I woke up and went for a 5.6 mile run…I didn’t do a really long run like I usually do on Sundays, because I knew my parents would be waiting on me and they had to go back home today. After running, I got ready and we went out to a cute, local restaurant…they had Greek and Italian food….yum. I love Greek food….in fact, I had a Greek salad for lunch. So good. Plus leftover salad for dinner! ha ha… After my parents left, I decided to go to Hot Yoga…its been two weeks since I went last, and I felt like I could use a good stretch after running over 30 miles this week. Its been a while since I’ve done over 30/week…I definitely gravitated towards only running this week rather than including crosstraining…which is probably NOT a good thing. Crosstraining is a good thing to include in your workout schedule! :)

So, finally the weekend has slowed down…and this upcoming week is going to be soooo slack, so I need to enjoy it while I can! haha…4 day week minus my 9:30am class on Tues/Thurs…not a bad week at all ;) I hope everyone had a great weekend :)

Weekend Recap!

8 Mar

Well it was definitely an eventful and busy weekend! Friday, I was driving home from the ‘Burg for 5 hours, then I went for an 8-mile run that was nothing short of exciting…ha ha. Saturday, I got to go birthday shopping and I finally got my Longchamp bag that I’ve been drooling over ;) And Sunday, the fam, the boy, and I took a drive to the beach (OBX) for the day. We took my SUV because it has 4WD and we had planned to drive on the beach. So we woke up early and headed towards the beach. I had already decided on getting in a run on the beach, and the boy actually said he would run, too! I can get him to run with me occasionally, but he just isn’t loving it…he prefers strength training and playing basketball for hours rather than running. But I haven’t given up…still trying to convert him to running with me! Anyways, we both started off running together, and he stopped at about mile 1.5 and I kept going until I made it to 2.5 miles. And that is when I got a text message from one of my best friends (we’ve been great friends since high school)…she got engaged over the weekend! I am so so so thrilled for her…so exciting! Wow, so many of my friends have gotten married/engaged recently…makes me feel old! Looks like the boy & I are going to be among the LAST of our friends to get married…he has a year of school left and then one year to get his Master’s degree, and I have three years of law school ahead! So anyways, after all of that excitement, I turned around and started on my way back to catch up with the boy and continue running back to the starting point. I told him the exciting news and he was possibly in shock(?!) that another of our friends is engaged! He said he’s jealous of all of our friends…I know he’s so ready to propose, but he really wants to finish school and secure a job before we do anything drastic! ;) So we made our way back…I ended up doing about 5 miles total…I LOVE running on the beach! I plan to live near a beach and be able to do that whenever I want to! :)

After a late lunch with the fam, we all headed home. About 30 minutes in, my dad noticed my car was running rough…so we pulled off at the only place nearby, a Rest Area. Welp, long story short, the brake pads were sticking, which caused exceedingly hot temperatures from the friction and can essentially cause the tire to melt and the car to catch on fire…LOVELY. So we were basically stranded. Luckily, my uncle, a mechanic(!) made the 1.5 hour drive and he and my dad fixed the problem right there! We made it home much later than planned, but hey, its Spring Break so no worries! ;)

I was sooo exhausted after the craziness of the weekend, so I went to bed fairly early and got about 9 hours of sleep! It feels weird to be at home, doing nothing…but I guess I should enjoy it while I have the opportunity!

Pretty beach & perfect running weather ;)

Lovely weekend :)

15 Dec

This past weekend was really great…and I got so much done too! :) Friday evening, my boyfriend & I went to his aunt’s 50th Surprise Party…I’m beginning to think those 50th suprises are a trend! ;) After that, I went home and started preparing for my three Finals. No breaks for me!

Saturday, I got to spend some time with my Mama while we went shopping for Christmas cards, things to make Cinnamon ornaments (which turned out great!), and of course, a stop at Starbucks! I think its becoming an unhealthy (i.e. expensive) habit, but its one I am not willing to give up! Later, my boyfriend & I met up for dinner with one of our really good friends and her boyfriend. It was so nice to see each other, and I think the night was great :)

Sunday is usually always my day to devote to schoolwork, but since the semester is over except for exams, I didn’t really have to dedicate the whole day to doing work for once! I helped make the Cinnamon ornaments for the tree (the recipe can be found here), signed the family Christmas cards (I always get this task for some reason…haha), and got to watch “Christmas Vacation” with the fam! If you know my family, you know that is THE movie of the holidays! :)

One exam out of the way as of Mondayyyyy, and two more to go…I wrote 4.5 pages of an 8-page paper that is due Friday, so I’m not feeling too stressed…yet! Looks like Wednesday is going to be shopping day (yes, a little behind on that…haha)! Can’t wait :)

Pretty ornaments that are super easy to make :)
